Frequently asked questions

We understand that there are many products out there that can be used to coat a concrete floor, and it can be hard to know what is best. While we tend to use the phrase epoxy coating or epoxy flooring, we only use Polyaspartic from Sherwin-Williams. Epoxy is a popular word and a word that most people are more familiar with, however, Max Concrete Coatings uses polyaspartic for all our jobs, both for the base coat and the top coat. There are a number of differences between an epoxy coating and a polyaspartic coating. Epoxy Coatings are not UV resistant, have strong fumes, take longer to cure, and are not very durable in the long run. Polyaspartic products are six times stronger than epoxy floor coatings. Polyaspartic is extremely durable, UV resistant, cures in 24 hours, and is long-lasting. While some companies use epoxy products to save themselves money, an epoxy coating will cost more than a polyaspartic coating in the long run. If you’re looking for a coating for your floor that is both beautiful and functional, will make your floor more damage resistant, and will increase the value of your home and/or business, then a polyaspartic coating is the best overall concrete coating option for your floor!

Depending on the square footage of your project or the weather, typically our whole process takes one to two days unless otherwise discussed. If you choose to take advantage of our painting services in your garage or business as well, that can adjust the timeline of finishing your garage floor coating, other home area coating, or business coating. Our goal is to take care of your project quickly and efficiently, so you can get back to enjoying your space!
-
Polyaspartic begins to cure very quickly. You can walk on the floor 4 hours after the clear coat is applied. You can also start to bring smaller items back into your garage or other area at that point as well. Larger items such as refrigerators, recreational vehicles, or cars can be brought onto the garage floor coating or other concrete coating after 24 hours.

Garage floor coatings and other polyaspartic coatings are slip-resistant when wet or dry. The flakes provide a slight texture which will prevent the floor from becoming slippery. Don’t let that gorgeous shine fool you! However, if you still have concerns, we can mix in an additional slip-resistant texture with the top coat upon request.

We do require your garage or other space to be completely empty before we arrive the morning of your install, this is including but not limited to, refrigerators, deep freezers, shelves, etc... Because of liability and insurance reasons, we have our customers remove their items prior to our arrival.
-
Our customers have done a wide range of things to store their items while their floor is being coated. Most of our customers will put their things in their backyard, side yard, or basement. Others have rented a mobile pod or trailer for a day in order to keep their items more secure.
Our fast-cure polyaspartic is a two-part component, high-solids product, designed to protect steel and concrete in industrial, heavy-duty environments. Although most residential garages will not experience these exposures, we ensure that your floor is protected against future abrasions or wear. Also, it provides a high gloss, outstanding color retention, and provides excellent chemical, UV, and weather resistance to your garage floor.
* A second layer of clear coat is optional
We use commercial grade materials designed to last.
Garage Floor Coatings
Garage floor coatings are extremely popular. Unprotected garage floors will wear over time, can be stained by oils and fluids from vehicles, and can be damaged by the corrosive effects of snow and ice-melting chemicals, which are especially common in the SLC, Utah area. Because of these reasons as well as aesthetic appeal, ease of maintenance, and protective properties, many people look to get a garage floor coating for their homes. The hard, shiny surface of a garage floor coating is much easier to clean, sweep, vacuum, and mop than normal concrete in garages, and if you choose a lighter color, your garage floor coating can even brighten up your garage!
If your garage floor already has an existing concrete coating that is chipping, or if you have cracks, chipping, stains, etc… in your current garage floor, don’t worry, we can still help you have the garage floor coating of your dreams! Our crews are trained to remove any existing garage floor coating, and patch or repair any existing damage to your garage floor prior to applying a new garage floor coating!
Our garage floor coatings consist of a heavy flake broadcast system. We have nine popular flake options that 95% of our customers use. However, if you want a different option for your garage floor coating, it is our job to help you find what you will love for your garage floor!
